Kronoberg - in the middle of Småland!

Småland lies at the very edge of the north European forest line. The multitude of lakes, forests and stony earth have shaped people´s lives here. Enterprising and innovative people live here in Småland - people who readily set their sights out into the world around them.

A cultural region 
Few Swedish authors have described their native surroundings as lovingly as Vilhelm Moberg. His emigration trilogy belongs at the highest level of world literature and has become a part of our cultural identity. The history of emigration is here to experience at the world-unique Swedish Emigrant Institute. 
Nobel prize winners Pär Lagerqvist and Elin Wägner are other beloved authors who have immortalised the region in their works. 
Cultural life sparkles in the area! Here you will find theatre, musicals, festivals, stand-up comedy, poetry, slapstick farce, rock, yes, everything that you could wish to experience! And if you can´t find it, then someone problably soon arrange it....! 
Kronoberg´s heart beats for glass. Major artists and skilled craftsmen have provided the Kingdom of Crystal with a world-wide reputation. Småland´s Museum and Sweden´s Glass Museum stand as a source of inspiration here in Växjö. 

A sporting region 
For many years the people of Kronoberg have been spoiled by elite sport of the highest level. Both Carolina Klüft and her trainer Agne Bergvall have had the advantage of IFK Växjö as a nursery for their successes. Växjö TS is now world-renowned within the tennis world with famous names such as Edberg, Wilander and Björkman. 

An educated region 
Today, Växjö has one of Sweden´s most expansive universities. 14,000 students, 250 research graduates and 34 professors from all over the world provide the region´s companies with new and developing cutting-edge competence. Växjö University collaborates to the greatest extent with trade and industry and combines its national assignments with a comprehensive international and regional commitment. 

An entrepreneurial region 
The trade and industry of the region is characterised by large companies quoted on the stock market, specialist companies, R&D companies, the forest industry, a multitude of smaller companies, and a genuine industrial tradition with paper mills and glass works. The furniture industry blossoms. IKEA, Norrgavel and Lammhults are just a few examples of design companies with a world-wide repuation. 
Kronoberg attracts entrepreneurs. No one has missed the enormous expansion Torsten Jansson´s New Wave Group has been responsible for in Kosta where the traditional glass works stands side by side with quality outlets and event activities. And in a few years a World Trade Center will open its doors in Växjö. 
Employment is very high and umemployment is amongst the lowest in the country. 

A communications region 
In Kronoberg it is no distance at all between work and home. The local infrastructure is well developed. Those who want a calm and orderly every day existence in Kronoberg, commute easily to the dream job in Copenhagen or Stockholm. Flights take of in a northerly direction serveral times a day from Smaland Airport. Öresund trains travel at least every other hour between Kalmar, Växjö, Lund, Malmö and Copenhagen.
